Indian Civil Services Examination


Plan Of Examination:

The civil services examination consists of two successive stages:

(i) Civil services preliminary examination (objective type).
(ii) Civil services main examination (written and interview).
Selection of candidates for the various services and posts.
Candidates who are declared successful to have qualified for admission to the main exam. (held during October November) have to apply again in the application form.

Preliminary Examination:
U.P.S.E. holds preliminary Exam in May/June
(Notification for preliminary Exam is generally issued during December)

Agartala, Ahmedabad, Aizawal, Allahabad, Aurangabad, Bangalore, Bareilly, Bhopal, Mumbai, Calcutta, Chandigarh, Kochi (Cochin), Cuttak, Delhi, Dharwar, Dispur (Guwahati), Gangtok, Hydrabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jaipur, Jammu, Jorhat, Kohima, Lucknow, Chennai, Madurai, Nagpur, Panaji (Goa), Patna, Portblair, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Tirupati, Trivendurm, Udaipur and Vishakhapatnam

Eligibility Conditions:

1- I.A.S. and I.P.S. post candidates must be a citizen of India
2- and for other posts all rules and regulations of I.C.S.
3- Age limit: – 21 to 31 years
For S.C/S.T.: – 5 year age relaxation
For O.B.C. : – 3 year age relaxation, and other …… etc.

Minimum Educational Qualification:

A candidate must hold a degree of any of the universities by an Act of the central or state legislature in India or declared to be deemed as a university under section “3″ of the university grants commission Act. 1956 or possess or equivalent qualification.

Number of attempts: Four attempts for general cat.

Scheme and Subjects for the Pre and Main Exam.

(a) Preliminary Examination: -
The preliminary examination consists of two papers

Paper I – General studies – 150 Marks
Paper II- One optional subject – 300 Marks
Total – 450 Marks

(b) Main Examination: The written examinations consist of the following papers.

Paper I – One of the Indian language 300 Marks
Paper II – English 300 Marks
Paper III – Essay 200 Marks
Paper IV – General Studies – I 300 Marks
Paper V – General Studies – II 300 Marks
Paper VI – First optional subject – I 300 Marks
Paper VII – First optional subject – II 300 Marks
Paper VIII – Second optional subject – I 300 Marks
Paper IX – Second optional subject – II 300 Marks
And Last interview test carries 300 Marks

When candidates qualifies main exam they are called for Interview test.
